I have a bin of leather scraps, odds and ends that I never know what to do with and loathe to simply throwaway. My hoader tendency made me particularly impressed by what artist Gabriel Dishaw was doing with old LV bags. I really like his ingenious use of materials and combination of patterns he is using to make the likeness of his subjects. And they’re not limited to Star Wars icons, he’s also done shoes, a bust of Optimus Prime and even Iron Man.
After making a large project, I tend to make progressively smaller and smaller projects with the leftovers and had never thought to combine my pieces to make something more creative. I’m eyeing that scrap bin now to see what new I ideas I can come up with.
I too, struggle with tossing anything out! Bits of leather that will never be useful still get saved. i have a large box that is approximately half full of pieces that will possibly be never be used. So many things I see that could be repurposed.
It’s certainly an ongoing process for all of us. Thanks for reading and sharing, Loyd!
