I could watch leather bag making videos all day. Here are two recent finds from Dior and Camille Fournet. It’s nice to see the different variations on a technique and the many ways to make a luxury good.
Making of Dior Mini “BE DIOR” Leather Bag
A multi-part construction with corded edges turning the bag and then adding an insert. Notice the final hardware assembly with gloves to avoid fingerprints on the finish.
Haute Maroquinerie (Camille Fournet)
This 26-step, in-depth video highlights many facets of the bag-making process, including how they select their leather, cutting, splitting and handle construction.
Making of Ettinger Pinstripe Card Case
A good look at how thin wallet components can be made when making a multi-pocket piece. I love the speed and precision of the woman’s work as she puts it together.
I appreciate what you do I just wish that we can also be able to have show this craftsmanship from locally artisans, I know we are there, we exist, we just need to take out there and do it for the same reasons they do it.
Thanks for appreciating this forgotten art and trying to bring it back
SINCERLY
BYRON
First, thank you for this kind of presentation. I am very much inspired. At the moment, Am trying to make some small leather items and want to make monograms on it. How shall I protect a colored monogram when I start dyeing the background with a combination color ?
Byron, This form of bag construction is not a dying art, it’s mass produced using sewing machines. A dying art is one where all aspects of construction are done by hand, from paring the leather to stitching.
I appreciate your perspective, Paul. Thanks!
I’ve been browsing online more than three hours
lately, but I never found any interesting article like yours.
It is beautiful worth enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the net
might be much more useful than ever before.
I, too, could watch leather making videos all day. In the first video of the Dior Mini bag, it looks like they attached a bag stiffener to the leather of the insert before installing the insert. Is that the case? I would like to learn to do this.
Thank you! These are wonderful and inspiring!
Glad you found them inspiring, Kathy! Thanks for reading.
