A head knife is one of the most versatile tools you’ll own, capable of cutting, paring and skiving. It is often the displayed as the iconic leather tool. The long edge can be rolled across a workpiece resulting in a clean, straight cut. When paring, you’ll have a lot of sharp blade edge to work with and less trips to the whetstone. The arc of our Blanchard head knife extends beyond 180 degrees.
For best results when doing a rolling cut put a poly or a poundo board underneath instead of a green rubber cutting mat. A head knife should be carefully and constantly sharpened for both safety and ease of use. Mastering the technique and sharpening of a head knife is a long process but well worth it.
